![]() The Chamber would like to thank Alex Cartwright for his long tenure of service on the Public Transportation Corporation Board of Directors. The board oversees Bloomington Transit, our community’s public transportation system. Alex has served on the board since 2005 and recently stepped down from that position. Alex is a longtime Chamber member and has served as a Chamber Ambassador for many years. His thoughtful deliberations and astute guidance are a valuable asset for the Bloomington/Monroe County community, and we appreciate the time and energy he has contributed on behalf of the public. Click here for more details and to apply. ![]() The Monroe County Plan Commission will review a draft zoning module at its Dec. 14 meeting, as part of a major zoning overhaul that the county is undertaking. The meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. via this Zoom link. The draft module, which focuses on administrative procedures, is available here. This revision of the County Development Ordinance (CDO) is being undertaken by consultants McBride Dale Clarion and consists of three modules. Module 2 focuses on zoning districts and uses, while Module 3 will cover dimensional and development standards and definitions. Background and more info is on the Monroe County CDO site. ![]() On Dec. 9, the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce hosted U.S. Representative Trey Hollingsworth for a Federal Focus event. Hollingsworth, a Republican who represents Indiana’s District 9 in the U.S. House of Representatives, was re-elected to his third term in November. He discussed a wide range of issues in response to questions from Chamber members, including COVID-19 support for businesses, the presidential transition, balancing public health and economic recovery, and much more. Read their report here. ![]() Christopher Emge, principal of the Success School at the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, was appointed this month to the City of Bloomington Parking Commission. He was appointed by Mayor John Hamilton for a term ending Jan. 31, 2022. The Chamber's Success School, formerly known as the Franklin Initiative, acts as the connection between the business community and the education community. Find out more about the Success School here. ![]() In a Dec. 6 article in the Indiana Daily student, Erin Predmore, CEO of the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce, stressed the importance of shopping locally for the holidays to support Bloomington/Monroe County businesses. Premore also highlighted the Chamber's Holiday Gift Guide, which provides dozens of suggestions for shopping local. Read the IDS article here. ![]() Monroe County Commissioners have approved a new program to reimburse businesses and nonprofits for COVID-related expenses and increased the eligible reimbursements to $30,000. The previous cap was $20,000. The previous reimbursement program, which covered non-payroll COVID-related expenses, was slated to end on Nov. 30 and was part of the federal CARES Act. At their Dec. 2 meeting, commissioners voted to create a similar program funded from $4.7 million that the county received from the CARES Act. Click here for the reimbursement application form. ![]() Andrew Cibor will be the new City of Bloomington Engineer and will lead the city’s new Engineering Department. The hire was made by Mayor John Hamilton. The new department will include transportation and traffic engineering operations, which are currently housed in the Planning and Transportation Department. Cibor previously served as the city’s transportation and traffic engineer from March 2015 through August 2018. He has served as the City of Asheville, North Carolina City Traffic Engineer since September 2018. Cibor will start his new position on Jan. 11 and will receive an annual salary of $101,418. ![]() A Dec. 1 public meeting and online survey are the next steps in the City of Bloomington's Digital Equity Strategic Plan. The city recently released a draft of the plan, which lays out a framework to improve internet accessibility and affordability for Bloomington residents.
