Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is offering Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training in Mooresville this summer. Training is complete in 16 weeks and courses will be held June 4 through October 10 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. EMT training is free with the state’s Next Level Jobs Workforce Ready Grant for students who qualify. EMTs are first-responders and provide out of hospital emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients. They have the skills necessary to stabilize and safely transport patients for continued medical care. Ivy Tech Bloomington’s Paramedic Science program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). EMT training will be held at 173 Indianapolis Rd, Mooresville, Ind. To register and for more information, contact program chair, Rodney Taylor, at rtaylor90@ivytech.edu or call 812-330-6122. On Sunday, May 5, 2024, MCHA and Area 10 Agency on Aging will host a pop-up mobile vaccine clinic at the Endwright Center, located at 631 W. Edgewood Dr., Ellettsville, IN 47429. MCHA’s amazing veterinary team of volunteers and staff will be available from 1-3 p.m. with no appointment needed; all are welcome! Mobile Clinics offer a range of services, including legally mandated rabies vaccines for pets aged 12 weeks (about 3 months) and older. Additionally, clinics provide nail trims, anal gland expressions, microchips, and preventive measures for flea, tick, and heartworm. Subsidized rates are available to residents experiencing financial hardship. To qualify for these rates, residents should bring valid documentation with them to the Mobile Vaccine Clinic. Safety is paramount. Cats must be in carriers, and dogs must be leashed (no retractable leashes). It’s essential for pet owners to understand that pets showing signs of illness or aggression might be turned away. Communities or organizations interested in hosting a wellness clinic are invited to reach out to Liz Austin, Outreach Coordinator, at eaustin@monroehumane.org. On Saturday, May 11th, local letter carriers will once again collect food for Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Sponsored locally by National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 828 and supported by the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and US Postal Service, Stamp Out Hunger is a nationwide event occurring every year on the second Saturday in May.
Community members are encouraged to place a bag or box of food at their mailbox on Saturday, May 11 and their letter carrier or a volunteer will collect it for Hoosier Hills Food Bank. The food drive is HHFB’s largest and last year’s event resulted in 35,482 pounds donated. Organizers hope to bring the total back up over the 40,000 pounds received in 2022. “I can’t overemphasize the importance of this food drive to the food bank, and the agencies and neighbors that we serve,” said HHFB Executive Director and CEO Julio Alonso. “Over half our agency partners are seeing more neighbors than last year and half say those numbers are still increasing. One-third of our agencies are not receiving enough food from us to meet the demand. This is one of the easiest ways for people to help – just put the food at your mailbox and your letter carrier will deliver it to us!” At the end of the spring semester, we host a graduation celebration, Hospitality Showcase, for our graduates with food, games, and recognition. This grad party also serves as the final project for the culinary class that cooked for the Yellowwood during the 8 weeks; this year, the class is International Cuisine and the project will focus on street food, with each student hosting their own station to serve the public...you know, street food.
This year, we decided to expand the celebration and make it a fundraiser for our 2024 student trip. A casual indoor/outdoor gathering with tables to sit or stand at, as well as a chance to walk around and mingle. Food, desserts, beverages, chef demos, tours of the culinary labs, games. Food will be self serve, but service staff will be on hand. 5:30pm - 7:30pm Thursday May 9, 2024 $40/person - Tickets can be purchased here! Festivities located at The Yellowwood and the Yellowwood Patio - 200 Daniels Way 47404, Entrance 7 All proceeds will go to our Hospitality Foundation fund for student travel.
