Northwest Bank, a full-service financial institution offering a complete line of business and personal banking products, has been recognized by Forbes as one of the “World's Best Banks” for 2023. Ranked 60th in the United States, this recognition marks the fourth consecutive year that Northwest has made the list. The Forbes’ World’s Best Banks listing is determined by a customer survey ranking financial institutions by key satisfaction factors including trust, digital services, customer services and financial advice.
“This recognition is not only a reflection of the exceptional services we provide, but also of the lasting and meaningful relationships we build with our customers,” said Louis J. Torchio, president and CEO, Northwest Bank. “We greatly value these relationships and remain grateful to our customers for their continued loyalty and support.” Forbes partnered with market research company, Statista on this year’s listing. To determine the 2023 World’s Best Banks list, Statista surveyed more than 48,000 banking customers in 32 countries. The ranking was based on general satisfaction, likelihood of recommendation and customer ratings in five key areas: trust, terms and conditions, digital services, customer services and financial advice. In February, Northwest Bank was also recognized by Forbes as one of America’s Best Midsize Employers for 2023. WFIU Public Radio’s early music radio program Harmonia reaches a milestone this month when its 1,000th episode airs on Sunday, May 21 at 12 p.m. on WFIU2 and on Thursday, May 25 at 8 p.m. on WFIU.
The program debuted in October of 1991 and is hosted by Angela Mariani, who started with the show while she was a graduate student at Indiana University’s Early Music Institute (now Historical Performance Institute). “I’d been working [part-time at WFIU] for a couple of years when then-program director Christina Kuzmych asked me if I was interested in developing a weekly, one-hour program about early music, with the potential of eventually seeking syndication. I was very excited to do it but worried about the fact that I had just embarked on a doctoral degree, and producing and hosting a radio program sounded like a full-time job. I brought my dilemma to my teacher and mentor, the groundbreaking medieval music performer, scholar, and founder of the Early Music Institute, Tom Binkley. He told me, ‘You should definitely do it. You never know where it might lead.’ How right he was,” said Mariani. Local letter carriers will again collect food for Hoosier Hills Food Bank during this Saturday’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive. On May 13, the National Association of Letter Carriers will sponsor the nation-wide food collection effort, hosted in Monroe County by NALC Branch 828 and benefiting the hunger relief programs of Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Branch 828 also supports the food drive in other local counties.
Postal customers are encouraged to leave a bag or box of food by their mailbox on Saturday and it will be collected by their letter carrier and delivered to HHFB. Most needed items are canned meats and proteins, canned vegetables and canned fruit but any non-perishable items are welcome. Glass jars and perishable or expired food should not be donated. Last year’s food drive raised over 40,000 pounds of food for HHFB and organizers hope to match or exceed that total this year. Stamp Out Hunger is the food bank’s largest food drive each year.
