Monroe County NOW has partnered with Bloomington Transit to promote services to Spanish-speaking community members using money granted by the City of Bloomington’s Violence Reduction Grant in 2023.
The City of Bloomington announced September 1,2023, that it would fund the efforts of the Monroe County NOW “Unite to End Violence” campaign in the amount of $7300 to promote safe night-time transportation and safety in parking garages. Then-Mayor John Hamilton designated $125,000 in funding directly to support community-based efforts to prevent, intervene and reduce violence in Bloomington. The City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department administers the new Community-Based Violence Reduction Grants – a project to invest annually in evidence-based violence prevention projects offered by neighborhood-based agencies and organizations in Bloomington. “We asked residents, from students that lived off-campus to members of our neighborhoods most in need of services, what some of the biggest safety issues they had were. Parking garage safety and late night transportation were some of the biggest concerns. And we have great services, like Bloomington Transit’s Late Nite On-Demand program. I am a city council nerd and heard about the program when it started, but not everyone is aware of it. So Monroe County NOW has made it apriority to make sure as many residents know about it as we can. And having materials available in Spanish is important to us,” Monroe County NOW Vice-President Natalia Galvan said.

Joint Hypersonics Transition Office (JHTO), in collaboration with Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), has announced the winners to the Hyper-AMPD! prize challenge.
49 white papers were submitted in Phase I and Aerojet Rocketdyne, Castelion Corporation, GoHypersonic Incorporated, Northrup Grumman, and Specter Aerospace were invited to participate in Phase II of this challenge. Phase II will focus on building a Feasibility Study on the concept that each group designed during the Phase I White Paper. JHTO is looking for creative and cost-effective solutions that can be developed and tested within 24 months. Following Phase II, winners will be chosen for both monetary and non-monetary prizes. Up to two winners will be selected. More information about the Hyper-AMPD! prize challenge can be found on their website at Challenge.Gov. Dr. Sarah Armstrong, Director of JHTO’s Systems Engineering Field Activity at NSWC Crane, is excited to see the continued development of this project. "The hypersonic community came out in force to support JHTO's first-ever prize challenge, Hyper-AMPD! It is very encouraging to see so many novel ideas for low-cost, rapidly fieldable hypersonic systems. Submissions came from a wide range of idea generators, as well as created new partnerships in response to this challenge. It was incredibly difficult to narrow the selection for Phase II, but I am very excited to see the outcome of the feasibility studies over the coming months,” said Dr. Armstrong. Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA) is overjoyed to announce its April event to help local cat and dog owners keep their animals safe and healthy.

Additionally, clinics provide nail trims, anal gland expressions, microchips, and preventive measures for flea, tick, and heartworm. Subsidized rates are available to residents experiencing financial hardship. To qualify for these rates, residents should bring valid documentation with them to Mobile Vaccine Clinic. Safety is paramount. Cats must be in carriers, and dogs must be leashed (no retractable leashes). It’s essential for pet owners to understand that pets showing signs of illness or aggression might be turned away. CII Regional Focus Area New in 2024 are CII regional focus areas. In the IU Health South Central Region (SCR), persons living with mental health and substance use disorder can find it difficult to identify and navigate the variety of services beneficial to remain in stable and safe situations. We are seeking place-based projects in the SCR that are focused on providing supportive or wrap-around services for persons with mental health or substance use disorder needs including case management, safe and healthy housing, access to nutrition and financial management training. Projects should focus on persons in recovery or in unstable situations with the skills needed to live successfully in a healthy way in their community. These place-based projects can also include other services that support this population from a holistic approach, like workforce services. ![]() Ivy Tech Foundation will kick off Ivy Tech Day at 12:01 a.m. ET on April 23.
