Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new strategic and hypersonics research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) facility on Thursday, March 21. The Missile Technology Evaluation Facility (MTEF) provides a new capability for NSWC Crane to ensure reliable performance of strategic hypersonics systems and is planned to be completed at the end of 2025. “The MTEF capability serves the Navy’s priorities to maintain the world’s most powerful Navy—and the infrastructure that sustains it,” said Dr. Brett Seidle, SES, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy RDT&E. “NSWC Crane has leveraged resources to bolster integrated deterrence and improve the infrastructure that directly impacts the Navy’s warfighting efficacy.”

The Mill, Bloomington’s nonprofit center for entrepreneurship, announced the winners of the Spring 2024 Crossroads Pitch Competition. Tee Genius won the Collegiate competition for the first-ever golf tee time booking and notification software that is financially advantageous to both golf courses and golfers. Therapprove, the winner of the Crossroads Spring, serves as a comprehensive hub for pediatric therapies, including physical, occupational, speech, behavioral, and mental health, offering a streamlined solution for caregivers whose children often require multidisciplinary care. They introduced pioneering features aimed at reducing the referral-to-response time to zero days.

From now through Sunday, April 14th, all Bloomington and Monroe County residents who currently have broadband Internet are encouraged to take the Monroe County Broadband Challenge. “Essentially, we need people to take a series of internet speed tests for us, because this will help us to make sure that available federal funding for high-quality broadband will be distributed appropriately throughout Indiana,” explains Monroe County GIS Coordinator John Baeten. Part of a much larger, federal initiative, the Monroe County Broadband Challenge is just one of many such broadband Internet surveys being conducted statewide, and there's a lot of money at stake. “Counties throughout Indiana are taking part in what's known as the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program Challenge process,” says Julie Thomas, president of the Monroe County Board of Commissioners. “This is a $42 billion federal program, and a portion of that is being administered in Indiana through the Indiana Broadband Office's National Telecommunications and Information Administration.”
Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), in collaboration with Indiana University (IU), announced its first-ever Education Services Agreement (ESA) on March 20 at WestGate Academy in Odon, Indiana. According to acquisition.gov, an ESA is “an ordering agreement under which the Government may order educational services.”
Dr. Angela Lewis, SES, Technical Director at NSWC Crane, and Dr. Siân Mooney, dean of the Indiana University’s O’Neil School of Public and Environmental Affairs, the top-ranked public affairs school in the country, both spoke about the significance of this ongoing partnership. “Partnerships like the Education Services Agreement with Indiana University allow our workforce to further develop leadership skills, participate in curriculum tailored to the Department of Defense and Navy environment, and grow their professional network,” said Dr. Lewis. “By providing services such as this, we are able to ensure a mission-ready workforce that continues to support the warfighter. Indiana University has a long history with NSWC Crane and I look forward to another decade of developing our future leaders.” WHAT: Ivy Tech Community College campuses across the state, including Bloomington, will operate virtually Monday, April 8, as the 2024 total solar eclipse crosses much of Indiana. All classes and administrative services will be virtual and all Ivy Tech buildings and parking lots will be closed to the public, reopening Tuesday, April 9.
