For over two decades now, The Chamber’s Success School has championed excellence in education with the annual awards ceremony, which recognizes the best teachers and programs in accredited schools across Monroe County. This year eight educators, one educational program, and one lifetime achievement recipient were honored in a community celebration at the 21st Annual Educator of the Year Awards that was held on the evening of Thursday, March 3rd, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Ivy Tech Community College – Bloomington’s Shreve Hall. The program featured student-led entertainment with a performance from the Tri-North Jazz Band.

On Thursday, February 24, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce held it's monthly Business After Hours at the BASCI Homeshow sponsored by German American Bank for it's VIP Night. With 200+ in attendance, and over 28 prizes, the night was a success! See the photos below to get a sense of how the night was! On Tuesday, February 8th, 2022, the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce hosted it's bi-monthly Bloomington Women in Leadership (BWIL) event. BWIL is based on three pillars: Empower, Engage, and Inspire. This month focused on Empowerment, noting the accomplishments and efforts in our community of the four women here with us today. The Chamber and Bloomington Women in Leadership recognize the importance of highlighting, advocating for and elevating Black women and women of color to leadership roles in professional organizations. With this panel, we share the journeys of four prominent Black women in Bloomington to highlight their successes, to encourage being an advocate for women of color in the workplace and our community, and, ultimately, to elevate and expand inclusion within our organizations. On Friday, January 14, 2022, The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Legislative Preview, a popular event for Chamber members and the public to meet with and hear from local legislators. Eric Spoonmore, President and CEO, introduced our legislators and moderated the Q&A portion. The audience was able to hear from Rep. Bob Heaton (District 46), Rep. Jeff Ellington (District 62), Rep. Peggy Mayfield (District 60), and Sen. Shelli Yoder (District 40). Sen. Eric Koch (District 44), Rep. Rep. Chris May (District 65), and Rep. Matt Pierce (District 61) could not attend this event. The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce and the Bloomington Rotatory partnered with IU Kelley School of Business for their annual Business Outlook Luncheon & Panel on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Indiana Memorial Union Alumni Hall. At this event, panelists discussed how the changing economic environment will affect business and public policy decisions in the coming year - globally, statewide, and in Bloomington/Monroe County. Panelists included Dr. Kyle Anderson - Clinical Assistant Professor of Business Economics with Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, Dr. Ryan Brewer - Professor of Finance with the Columbus Division of Business at Indiana University, Dr. Jennifer Lynn Rice - Senior Lecturer with the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University, and Jennifer Pearl - President of the Bloomington Economic Development Corporation. Phil Powell, Associate Dean of Academic Programs at the IU Kelley School of Business, Indianapolis moderated this event. On Tuesday, October 26th, the Bloomington Women in Leadership (BWIL) held it's second Inspire event of 2021 at the Bloomington Country Club. Rachel Gerber, Assistant Director for the Career Development Center at Indiana University, spoke to our members about "Ordinary Miracles." As busy professionals, we live at the intersection of many things—managing projects, schedules, and to-do lists. It’s easy, especially in busy seasons of lives, to feel bogged down by the weight of it all. Rachel gave us the tips on how to "Re-Member. Re-Orient. Re-Center." The Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce welcomed US Senator Todd Young to Bloomington for a special presentation on Friday, October 22, at the Woolery Mill. This event included remarks from the Senator, and a moderated question and answer session with Dan Peterson, Vice President Industry and Government Affairs with Cook Group Incorporated. The Chamber’s Federal Focus event was created to allow dialogue and information sharing between the local business community and elected officials at the federal level. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear directly from the Senator on topics that impact the nation’s business climate, upcoming and recent legislative priorities, and updates from Congress. |
